Wenn sich aber einer der Hunde in irgend etwas eklig stinkendem gewälzt hat, nehme ich ein spezielles Hundeshampoo. Menschenshampoo ist ungeeignet, weil die Haut von Menschen einen anderen pH-Wert, als die der Hunde hat.
Die menschliche Hautoberfläche ist leicht sauer bei einem pH-Wert um 5,6 der pH-Wert von Hunden liegt im basischen Bereich und schwankt rasseabhängig zwischen 6 und 8, Schäferhunde haben oftmals sogar mehr als 8.
Und weil wir ja alle tierlieb sind: achtet bitte darauf, dass ihr kein Shampoo mit Nerzöl oder ähnlichem kauft. Am besten ist eines, das ausserdem ohne quälende Tierversuche hergestellt wird. PETA führt eine „Positivliste“ für Kosmetik – einschließlich Hundeshampoo.
Eine Positivliste gibt es auch beim Deutschen Tierschutzbund, allerdings bisher nur mit Produkten für Menschen, also ohne Hundeshampoos. Die gelisteten Produkte, Hersteller und Läden unterscheiden sich teilweise von der PETA-Liste, weil die Kriterien für „tierversuchsfrei“ zwar ähnlich, aber trotzdem unterschiedlich formuliert sind und es vor allem bei international vertriebenen Produkten ein großer Aufwand wäre, die Kriterien von allen länderspezifischen Tierschutzorganisationen zu prüfen und nachzuweisen.
